RE: Lil off topic but still relates......Mustang v6 Camaro V6
I was impressed with the Autoweek Camaro article in
this week's addition. Both GM and Ford and whatever
Chrysler's called these days better be movin' more
units monthly, or all this is gonna be an afterthought.
Just last week, GM was denying bankruptcy and closing
several truck plants.
Yes, the Camaro is a fine piece, but Ford can and will
counter with whatever they bring to the market, if the
market dictates it. Ford has and always will outsell GM
in the pony market though. I can just see the dealer
pack on these new Camaros. Unless you know someone,
you'll have to pay quite a few grand over sticker for awhile.
It's definitely a great looking car.

from what I hear its like 3800 pounds which is heavy as hell but yeah Motortrend June was talking about a turbo charged V6 300hp for the 2010 Mustang so I dont think ford will have anything to worry about especially if the Mustang is cheaper.
and that is if GM doesnt go bankrupt by the time the 2010 Mustang comes out , I know you all saw their press conference lol.
Might be the 2012 Ford Camaro soon

I also read they may offer a 4 cyl base model. Here's the money line though (pun intended):
"And all automatic transmissions - V6 or V8 - will offer rev-matching downshifts and paddle shifting. What it really means that this should be a stonking good deal if it's anywhere south of $40,000."
My bet is they will over price it for the intended market across the board. Too many goodies / performance for them to keep the price down once the novelty wears off. Too many models too.
The SS will be competing with the Vet for sales, not a good thing for GM overall.
How will the standard V8 compete with the V8 Mustang and Mopars on price vs performance??? My guess comparable but not compelling.
The V6, it may outperform the competition (disregarding the probable 3.5 turbo) but again at what price? This market has a lot of competion beyond the domestics.
If there is a 4cyl that will sell on looks for the first year maybe two but how many models varieties will the market support?
My prediction...3-4 year run and they kill it due to poor sales.
fww...just me & my crystal ball talkin

meh its 3900 lbs I hear ... wow thats basically 2 tons. .. lol this damn thing weighs more than the Charger .. ok I just got a lot less scared.
basically get some gears and few mods you'll beat this heavy box off the line all the time. the Camaro is nice dont get me wrong but the S197 weighs like 3350 , if the 2010 weighs the same with specs close to it , mustangs will beat camaros all day

I think if the price of gas keeps going up, owning a V8 may not be the "hip" thing to do. I expect to see a rise in high performance 4 cylinder cars in the future. I just hope Ford has learned their lesson with the Mustang II.

Sounds like I'm gonna have to pick up a second job and buy a Vette.
Honestly, it doesn't matter to me. I'm used to not racing people in my slow-*** V6 anyway. One thing I'm sure of is that the 6-banger's replacement is going to have substantially more than 210 hp in it. Much as I love this car, she just isn't fast enough, and in a few years it'll be time to replace her and I'll probably get a better deal on insurance (they're weren't too nice to me this time given my young age) so that'll be that.
Kudo's to Chevy for building a 300hp 6-banger, but there's a lot left to be said. The premium Mustang GT is supposed to push 400 horses, and probably at a price comparable to the V6 Camaro, so who knows.
Besides, those Camaros just aren't as pretty as Ford made the Mustang, plain and simple.
