Question rear end and reflash question

I have gotten just about all the parts for the installation of 3.73 gears and t-lok. The shop installing it mentioned that I needed to get an electronic eqpt to reflash the computer. What exactly is that? Are they speaking of a predator or diablo tuner???? if so that is another 300 to 400 dollars I was not counting on spending..... how else can they reflash the computer once the gears and t-lok are installed...

I just have never heard of having to buy a tuner to reflash the computer when changing gears...

any body has some suggestions????

Yes they are refering to the tuner. You need to it adjust gear ratio otherwise your shift points (if auto) and speedo/odometer will be off.

I would suggest getting a CAI/Tune combo and you will have a huge increase in performance along with your gears.

It will cost you another $500 bucks for the CAI/Tune but the best money spent. You can drive without it, but it is not recommended.

You CAN just buy a tuner and run with the stock airbox (no CAI), which will run you about $300. Make sure the tuner keeps your optional parameters unlocked, so you can change the gear ratio. But ODDYSEY is right, if you have an auto tranny the new gears may fug with your shifts.

the car is manual drive and I have already a CAI and a Jet Chip Power Module (sim to a hand held tuner but just a plug in type) installed on the car. If I got to buy another tuner I may reconsider this whole install. too much money involved.

Has anybody have had the gears intalled by a shop and then taken the car to the dealer to reflash the computer.? would the dealer do that? how much should I expect?

also what else do I need that is not listed below?
t-lok
3.73 gears
full install kit
modified cross shaft
friction modifier fluid
royal purple fluid - is this ok for new install?what weightI need?

Default reflash cost

I found out today that after I have the shop install the gears and t-lok I can take it to the Ford dealership and they can do the comp reflash for about 1 hr worth of work. This is a lot cheaper than having to buy a tuner for about $400

Correct me if I'm wrong but I haven't looked into this yet on the 05+ stangs. On the older stangs all we had to do was switch out the speedo gear in the tranny, is there not one on the newer stangs now? By switching out this gear for about $20 the speedo would stay almost perfect. But using a programmer is the only way to get it perfect.

While it may cheaper in the short term, anytime you lose power and have to reset the battery, you will have to pay to have it reflashed again.

What you gain by switching to something like a C&L CAI/ Xcal 3 tuner from any of the top tuners recommended here is worth its weight in Mustang Gold!

I could be wrong, but I believe the flash Ford does would be held even after a power loss, because it reflashes the ROM. I've been wrong before though!
