I think 4.10s run at around 2500-2600 at 65 so either would be fine. Please correct me if im wrong!

2500-2600 @ 65 is about right for 4.10's i believe. my 3.73's are perfect for me. if i'm on the highway and want get some even quicker pep, i turn O/D off which drops the car to 4th and i'm in the powerband in no time. VERY helpful in LA 405 traffic.

Isn't the manual 5th a tad higher geared than the auto? If so...it may be tolerable.

I was just in a car tonight with 4.10's and in town I liked it...but on the highway, it was buzzy. We weren't going 65...maybe 75ish and the motor was really humming...close to 3k for sure.

If you spend any amount of time on the highway, 3.73 seems to be the way to go. ESPECIALLY if you do any 75-80mph highway at all...that will be a no go for more than a few mins on 4.10's.

All V6 S197's come from the factory with the 7.5" open differential and 3.31:1 gears.

To the OP, I had 4.10's in my coupe (4.0L/5spd) and had no problem, even on the highway. I would still get 27mpg on the highway too. I swapped that rear (rotor-to-rotor) into my wife's 2005 Mustang ragtop (4.0L/auto), and it works great in there too. I cannot tell you the RPM's at speed off-hand, but it wasn't so high that it was a concern for me. Your driving habits should be the final deciding factor. Is it a daily driver that cruises regularly at highway speeds? Are you looking for more fun on the street when pulling away from a light? Will you be hitting the track and looking for low ET's? The 3.73's are fine for most, but don't be afraid of 4.10's either.

3.73's work well for me, and I do alot of highway driving 70-80ish. I think I run around 2400 rpms at 65-70ish. ( could be wrong but that seems about right )

I would go with 4.10s all the way. When I had my Cobra it had the stock 3.08s in it and I put in some 3.73s. There wasn't much of a diff and I kicked myself for not going with 4.10s or 4.56s. There will be even less of a diff from our 3.31s to 3.73s. So to prevent you from being like "ehh the 3.73s are alright" go with the 4.10s the first time around. There's my 2 cents...

I have to disagree cobby, I felt a pretty substantial increase going from 3.31's to 3.73's. I originally was going to go 4.10's but after not being able to find non-motive 4.10's I settled for 3.73's and was glad I did as i rev pretty decent on the highway.

t-5 have a .68 5th gear, 5R55s are .75, IMO anything with any kind of OD you can get 4.10s and not absolutely kill your milage (should loose 2 mpg on average with 4.10s), but it depends on what your plans are for the car and what you trap at in the quarter (if you run your car at the track and in which case i dont think id go with a tlok either)

if your planning a turbo or a roots blower like the X-charger id go with 3.73s
