Default Has my 'stang been reprogrammed?

I'm the 3rd owner of a Black 2006 Mustang V6 Convertible, with the manual transmission. It is a blast to drive.

I've been reading that S197 Mustangs cannot add a cold air intake or an exhaust without having the computer reflashed. Yet, when I bought it it already had a CAI and Flowmaster exhaust on it. I didn't think about it at the time.

Or, is it just the GT's that have to be reprogrammed?

Thanks

JASOON,

The V-6'ers, as well as the GT (V-8's) CAN be re-flashed after a Cold Air intake install.

Post a link to some pictures of your intake......and we might be able to tell you if your car has an intake system that REQUIRES a custom tune. (some CAI systems don't REQUIRE a reflash).....others do.

Nope, thats a standard OEM intake tube with a heat dam and a high flow cone air filter.
It does not normally require a tune to keep from running lean. The previous owner
went for looks over performance. I would not suspect he dropped $400 for a tuner.
A real CAI with a roto-molded intake tube thats bigger than the OEM intake tube requires
a tune for proper MAF calibration so that the engine does not run lean.
Exhaust changes dont normally require a tune as the OEM exhaust is big enough
unless you go Forced Induction such as a blower.

Well then there is also the VMP intake which requires a tune, but does not replace the factory air tube. In fact if I recall properly, Justin at VMP compared the factory rubber tube and the C&L tube on a dyno and found no noticable increase in power.

Rouch, I was wrong.
Is VMP comparing the V6 OEM intake tube or the GT intake tube?
Its the tubes size in the area of the placement of the OEM MAF sensor
that determines if a change of the A/F ratio is needed to compensate.
Or do they leave that parameter alone and just change timing and such?

The only thing that requires a tune is when a CAI alters the MAF housing size, once the air makes it through the filter and the MAF, tube size and construct is irrelevant.
