Since the OP has a 2005 4.0L V6 model, then his factory DS has the u-joint caps peened/pinned in place. During the early part of the 2006 model year, Ford replaced this design with retaining clips, which are more durable. There have been a few reports of failures at speed with the 1st design. The 1st DS design is factory rated to about 113mph, but if you change the gears to 3.73's or 4.10's, then you are spinning the DS faster to reach 113, thus esceeding the safety range of that DS when at that speed.

All aftermarket DS's come with the clip-design on their DS. To know which one you have, crawl underneath the car and look at the recessed area for the u-joint caps. If you don't see a retaining clip, then you have the older design. My previous 2006 coupe was built early in the model year, and it had the old design.

I just remembered, the guy I bought it from couldn't sell it on ebay first and gave me the link. Here is a link to some of the pics he took of the car:

I'll take some this week and post them up. I am gonna do the gold rocker stripe delete soon because I don't like it. Good idea?

Thanks. My first agenda was modding for mpg. That's the reason I got almost all of the mods on the list. In some way each mod will help aid mpg somewhat, except for the t-lok. Performance isn't a goal right now for me, might be in the future but right now I am just looking at keeping my gas bill as low as it can be.

Hey thanks, that's a good info there.
My car is a late 06 so I guess it came with the improved DS.
It will get replaced eventually...
