Talking First Oil Change

Well I feel its time for me to get the oil changed on my car for the first time and i've been thinking i will be going the Mobil-1 synthetic route. here's my question, I've been told that i should change my oil 1 time with regular oil before going full synthetic to help continue the break in of my car. Is there any truth to this? Also I've heard there are synthetic oil filters that help keep the oil primed in your car... any info is appreciated, thanks guys

that's an old wives tale. The factory specifies synthetic. Not after a dino oil change, just synthetic.

As for oil filters, all of them have an anti drain back valve to keep oil in your car. The 'orange' (cheap) filters have a anti-syphon valve in them that is suspect and subject to failure. So go for a Motorcraft FL820S, that's a great filter, and cheap if you can stand going to WalMart. I also buy my Mobil 1 there in the 5 quart jug. I just buy a couple at a time. So the next 3 times I buy oil I just buy 1 5 qt jug.

ford recomends syn blend, use that and a motorcraft/purolator filter and change it at the factory specs and your fine, full syn is a waste of money unless you have a built car or F/I

all my previous Ford mod motors called for a blend, but this one says full synth in the owners manual. I always loved the Motorcraft blend I could buy for $2 or less a quart at WalMart. In fact my last mod motor was the 6.8 liter V10 and it called for a blend. So I assumed the Cologne V6 in this car called for the same. It did in the 93 4.0 V6 I bought for the wife in the AWD Aerostar. But that motor wasn't OHC and made quite a bit less hp. So I'll stick with what the owners manual calls for, full synthetic.

My 2006 S197 v-6 owners manual calls for a synthetic blend.......but I still went full synthetic anyway.

just went and got Mobil 1 5W20 with the high eff. oil filter. she's good to go, I know it says that you can go up to 7,500 miles before changing again but i'm curious as to how long you guys go between changes on full synthetic

You can use Mobil 1 from the first change. Won't hurt a thing. It's a good oil for the price. So is Motorcraft blend for that matter.

There really is no reason to go with a full synthetic class v oil like RP or Amsoil unless you drive the car like Mario Andretti everywhere you go. M1 and MC hold up just fine.

The spec for the V6 is 5W-30. The V8 uses 5W-20.
