when my mom gets a new car tho, would it be possible to switch me and the car to my dads policy and then im listed as a driver for one of the acuras and him for the mustang or something because he has great insurance. i was just thinking about this too because it might be cheaper, and then again it might not be

This is what I'm doing.. I'm on my parent's policy, but the car is registered under my father's name.. who has a clean record.
So basically the insurance is wayyy cheaper than me (an 18 year old) having it under my name.

are you registered as a primary driver under your fathers car or something? if so what car does he have and how much is it a month or 6 month or a year?

hopefully my dads rate would be around the same maybe. he hasnt gotten a ticket since he was like 16 and his insurance for his 08 acura tl that he had bought brand new is currently 450 every 6 months i believe, do u think it would go up for the mustang even tho its less? or down? cus i think the TL is definetly more..

oh wait then if i was under the TL that might be more..i think i might just be under my moms policy because she would probably get a cheap safe car that i could be primary under and shed be primary for the stang. but for now i guess il just be occasional on her policy as she'll be primary for the mustang. i hope that wouldnt cost too much.

best bet is for your mom to buy the car, and insure it w/you as an occasional driver. She could list the car as her primary driver. Not having a 3rd car on the policy and you as a part time driver will be the cheapest and most legal way to get what you want. You having part time driver status on your dad's insurance won't carry over to your mom's car.

yeah..the agent gave us a quote for a 6 month thing and it would increase from 923 to 2769 based on good student on an 05 coupe. thats pretty bad and theres no way me or my parents want to pay that
