Default Drag Radials and Rims

So, I've recently started going to the track and am lovin it! I want to be able to get a better launch and overall time but don't really want to go the gear and t-lok route since I'm probably getting rid of the car in May when I graduate college. I would like to buy some decent street legal drag radials and an inexpensive set of rims so i can put them on before going to the track, drive there, beat them up, and take them off and put the stock set back on when I get home. By set I mean the 2 rear tires and wheels. Does this seem like a good alternative to get a little better traction without spending over $1000 on an 8.8 with 3.73s and t-lok? Also, I'd like to stick with stock rim size but was wondering how wide I will be able to go with the tires? Let me know if you guys have any particular brand that seems to work best and where I can buy them. Any input is appreciated.

I think you would be better off with 3.73 gears and t-lok. It might be a little bit more but not only will you be able to get traction you will also gain a few 10's of a second with the 3.73's.

If you are running an open differential, then I wouldn't bother with DR's. At a recent track rental, I loaned my DR's to a guy with a PH turbo-4.0L who had the stock rear. He did a great burnout, with the passenger tire. It was quite sticky when he got to the line. Guess what happened? The open diff transferred power to the less sticky driver's side tire and he smoked it - got a 3.xx 60' time (which is horrible).

Since you say you will probably be getting rid of the car, then save your money for modding the next car.
