XM radio in Shaker 500 problems....
Hello,
I had circuit city install the XM radio in with the shaker 500, and it sounds like total ***. With the XM radio at maximum output, it is at only about 40% of the stock tuner's volume, and when you crank it up it sounds like AM radio. They threw their hands in the air and said that's just the way it is, and there;s nothing more they can do. I know this is crap, becuase i have the same unit in my SHO, and it sounds as good as a CD and the volume levels are the same as the tuner or other CDs.
Is there something special that needs to be done to get it to sound better, than maybe they don't know abou yet for this system?

RE: XM radio in Shaker 500 problems....
Did you try turning the volume down on the xm?? I would set the xm at about half volume and use the car stereo volume control to adjust the levels if you haven't tried that. I have a very complicated home setup with many things all with thier own volume controls connected to my amp. The first thing I check when I hear distortion is that the volumes are all set at about half. (it worked with my girlfriends Ipod in my old car too)

The output is set to highest level, and it's only sounding half as loud as the other channels. It's FM modulated. Is there a way to do a direct input somehow??? When I had it at half output, you could barely even hear it when tuned to it's fm station.

Nook,
It's going to be weak specifically because it's FM modulated. Basically your XM Tuner is producing a very low level radio signal that your stereo can tune in to. I don't know much about the Shaker 500, but you may inquire at your dealer about who their factory ford authorized stereo guys are, and see if there is some kind of Aux imput in the back that you can take advantage of.
Good luck... post your findings!
