Synthetic Mix or Full Synthetic, that is the question?

It shouldn't be...are you sure it's actually dirty or maybe the oil itself has changed color a bit due to heat etc? Are you changing it yourself and if so what filter/oil are you using? Maybe if you're a track junkie?

I use the Motorcraft syn mix every 5k just like the owner's manual says to do. I have the dealership change it in the winter and the rest of the year I do it myself and they use Motorcraft syn mix as well. I use the Mobil1 filter when I do it and the dealership uses the Motorcraft one.
I think the ones using fully syn every 3k is overkill and a waste of money but then again that's JMO and not my money so do as you please....keep the economy rolling

Wife's explorer has had mobil 1 in since first oil change 189,000 no problem and has the same 4.0 SOHC. In my stang chaged the oil at 1K used motorcraft syn blend then at 3K switched to valvoline full syn. Motorcraft filter is one of the best filters you can get just stay away from the orange frams the gray frams are not as bad but still not that great

Synthetic oil such as mobil 1 and amsoil are a world above regular oil and you can go about 6000- 7000 between changes. If you want the very best then that would be Redline which is a world above mobil 1 ,more expensive but even longer between oil changes. One of the many advantages of synthetic is that they don't thicken like regular oil when it is cold out allowing for easier starts and less engine wear
