I've been told by multiple people that not only is cutting it yourself free but it doesn't hurt reception at all. In the spring I plan on doing it myself as well. There is a post on either this forum or another forum that someone here linked to that shows how they did it themselves but all it is is using a dremel cutting tool and then either take the tip off your own antenna and reapply it or go to radioshack and get a rubber end peice that just slides right over the top. That's all there is to it.

Just did it not hard at all what i did was get a pice of tape and mark it where I thought it would be a good distance. Then I used the nail hole on a small crow bar kind of like what they did in the picture. Then I used a jig saw with a metal blade (all I had) and cut it. Then I had to file it a little so the ball could fit back on the top by the way keep an eye on that thing it is small and easy to loose looked around for about 15 minutes trying to find it, luckily I did find it. Then I put a little black paint on the tip so it looked better and put a little glue on the top and it looked like it came wit it and the best part was that it is free
