How often should we change our oil?
#15
Manual reads 7500 miles. Frequent oil changes are a sham and a marketing ploy by Jiffy Lube. It also specifies "normal" use...which means 90% of us.
Numerous independent tests have validated that the only thing you decrease by swapping oil at 3k is the money in your wallet.
All of Europe has been on 12-15K oil changes for a decade as they dont have "quicky" oil change places trying to make a buck.

5k with synthetic blend, its not the oil thats limited its the filter, if you wanted to splurge for amsoil or something like that you can change a motorcraft oil filter every 5k and change the actual oil every 15k.
i just stick with syn blend or dino oil and a motorcraft filter every 5k

all depends on driving habits, ambient conditions, and what type of driving you do (city vs highway) . In hotter climates like where I'm at (AZ) I change it every 3K unless it's full syn. In that case I go 5K. With regular oil or syn blend, every 3K. Heat is the biggest enemy of oil and oil breaks down much faster under high heat conditions.
If you do a lot of city driving and hardly any highway then 3K should also be your rule of thumb. Mainly highway and/or milder climates. 5K should be fine.

Yea ford will always try to get more money out of you by making you come back every 3,000 miles. To tell you the truth my dad was a manager at a Ford dealership in Miami for 15 years and he changed his oil every 8000 miles or so and his 1995 F-250 had 370,000 miles before he traded it in, not one problem. Pretty much it is up to you how often you change your oil, I do it every 5000 miles or so.
Use a magnet on the filter, prefill your new filter with new oil before
installing, change it at 3K and see how dirty it is. You will be changing
it at every 3K if it looks dirty or has lost its lubricating properties.
You can send a sample to a lab for a breakdown of how its doing
lubrication wise and change it depending on their recommendations.
5K on todays modern synth lubes such as Mobil1 full syntheti c can
be a reality if its just normal daily driving. Short trips are the worst.
Different driving conditions require different oil change intervals.
A use of an oil stabilizer like LucasOils will help during the hot summer
months. The colder climates promotes water condesation in the oil
and running it untill hot everytime evaporates the moisture out of the oil.
Short trips do not.
