Default '09 MT shifter vs '07

I just sat in a '09 V6 today with a MT and did a dry run through the gears. The shifter was very smooth and easy. What did they change on the '09s?? Is it something I could take to the dealership and have them change out?

Has anybody else noticed the shifting difference between the years? I thought I heard somewhere that in either '08 or '09 they did fix our shifting problems. That must be true based on the '09 I sat in.

I sat in an 2010 Pony Package at the LA auto show that was equipped with a Hurst short throw and thought the same thing.

IDK I shifted an 08 GT and it felt like a hot knife through butter compared to my 6

yeah it was pretty sick huh?

then i thought about how many other people had been sitting in it. non-mustang owners mainly. in fact, the idiot after me proceeded to bang around the shifter like it was a toy!

in all honesty i don't think that's how they'll really feel on the 2010 mustang, but then again i could be wrong! after all, that new 2010 clutch feels SMOOOOTH and soft (almost too soft actually haha).

So I may be on to something that either the '08 or '09 model they did make a change to smooth it out. IDK where I heard that though.

There has to be a techy on here that knows...I hope

I have an '07 and had compliments from the Ford porter about the way my shifts so smooth. I haven't done anything to it. I guess I'm lucky.

Definitely lucky because the majority of us '05-'07 MT owners have complaints about the notchy shifters.

I test-drove an 09 (45th Anniversary) GT today and noticed the shifter was buttery smooth and much shorter than my 08 V6. I'm assuming the GT shifter is by design shorter than that in the V6? In any case, it shifted incredibly smooth and precise!

Might be because the GT has a different tranny!
