I had no Idea the 7.5 Detroit rear end was stronger, cheaper and lighter than the 8.8 GT take-off. I guess I was more focused on the ease of installation that the 8.8 might provide.

Thanks for the info guys!......good thread.

Nice car. I'm in sterling too. Like Bill said, you ever run your car at OD or MD? Sometimes you can get a good deal on a 8.8 and save some coin if 3.55's is all you need. But the 7.5 should serve you well if you go this route.

nope the labor on the 7.5 is more than the 8.8 (more involved) but it is close.

I have a 7.5 with FRPP 3.73s and a LPW girdle that I'm selling. Swapped it out of my '05 for a 8.8.

no its not, i was quoted $300 for gear and LSD install, and if you get a used 8.8 your going to want it rebuilt, now an 8.8 you can swap yourself, but for the extra $100 in labor for the 7.5, it will be stronger then the stock 8.8

You don't need new axles. The stock ones will still fit with the Detroit tru trac. They should be plenty strong. The only reason for upgrading them is if you plan to run a lot of boost and really need the extra strength.
