think my DD v6 deserves a minor upgrade, 7.5 rear end?
#11
Lots of useful info in this thread for those of us thinking about going F/I in the future, and swapping out rear ends.........
I had no Idea the 7.5 Detroit rear end was stronger, cheaper and lighter than the 8.8 GT take-off. I guess I was more focused on the ease of installation that the 8.8 might provide.
Thanks for the info guys!......good thread.

no its not, i was quoted $300 for gear and LSD install, and if you get a used 8.8 your going to want it rebuilt, now an 8.8 you can swap yourself, but for the extra $100 in labor for the 7.5, it will be stronger then the stock 8.8

You don't need new axles. The stock ones will still fit with the Detroit tru trac. They should be plenty strong. The only reason for upgrading them is if you plan to run a lot of boost and really need the extra strength.
