I've decided

...well I think I have.

I've been going back and forth between the 8.8 Rear end and T-lock(both with 3.73's). I think I've decided on the T-lock with gears. It's less expensive, so I can get some suspension work done eventually, and I won't have a supercharger anytime soon so I think this is the right decision.

http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/05Drivetrain.htm - T-lock is listed at $200 and Ford OEM 3.73 gears at $270

but at this site http://www.buyfordracing.com/shop/pr...=459cPath=3_37 gears are $150?

Can someone direct me to a good site with good prices and everything I'll need? Thanks :)

Well I can say no to the Tlock right now. I think I have pretty well busted mine. I am not sure I put it in and havent gotten a chance to tear it down and see if I busted some teeth off the ring gear or if its the Tlock making all the growling. I will let you know. The saftest bet thought is the 8.8

Man, I gotta tell you...the new 8.8 takeoff is a no brainer.

I had a Ford mechanic put it on in his garage for $100 cash. Took him about 2 hours start to finish.

I just asked the New Takeoff lady to toss in shipping and they did...so the price was very close to going gears/tlok and an install...but with OEM quality across the board.

I chose 3.73's and could not be happier!

Well we have determined, that alteast we think its the ring gear broke some teeth with some launches on it. We are going to tear it down and have a look and if that is it. I would say go for the TLock caues I know if it can handle the gears breaking teeth, after holding these things in your hand you will see how much power it really takes to break teeth off. Then you will see that the Tlock will hold up.

If you got the time, it will be a little bit after christmas like a week or so, maybe a little more since the car is still driveable. I can let you know what comes of this little prediciment

8.8 is the way to go, you'll end up paying close to the same as 3.73s & Tlok on the 7.5. Newtakeoff has the 8.8 plus 3.73s for a little over $800...

AlloySixxer 12-23-2008 10:14 AM

Illin you asked New TakeOff for free shipping and they did it? If so how did you manage that?

Seems like 8.8 is the consensus around here. If I could get it shipped for free and installed for $100 then I would definitely consider it.

Just asked...I am only 100 or so miles from, them though...that may have something to do with it.

Everyone is a bit slow right now...all you can do is ask. Tell them you are trying to decide to go with gears/tlok or go with a rearend from them...if the price were a bit lower it would make the decision easier.

I got the impression they know the 4.10 is worth quite a bit more...but noone is buying the 3.73's...or not as many.

Definitely get the 8.8" axle with 3.73 & T-loc... I'm SO GLAD I did!

BTW, FRPP isn't even making the gears for 7.5" axles anymore, so you'll likely not even be able to find the parts to do the 7.5... just avoid the potential problems with the 7.5 & get the 8.8..

Also just ASK them to lower their price and they WILL! I got over $200 OFF!

^^^I'll try it! Thanks guys.

AlloySixxer 12-23-2008 03:37 PM

Ok...it's $879 +$150 s/h for a total of about $1,030

He said he can get it to my door for $900 but I have to buy by the 25th before they close for inventory. He also said he might not be able to give me the same deal in the new year. So...what do you guys think of the price?
