How do i drive my automatic on the 1/4 mile

i figured how to launch by holding the brake with my left foot and reving to 2000 rpms with my right, but how do i drive it down the track. do i just go pedal to metal and hold it down until the end, or do i pump the gas at certain points.

thanks

Brian

I just hit the gas and go, let the computer handle the shifting. Best to date is a 13.87

What Jim Said...hold it to the floor and keep the hood pointed downrange.

Even before I had a t-lok, I found that just hitting the gas gave me better 60's as it is such an easy muscle reaction. I found the coordinated letoff/application causing more problems...and our 6ers do just fine with a pedal launch.

Best here is 14.49 and I doubt I will break that (by anything significant) until I either go FI or spray...and I wont do either until my warranty is over. Then an X commeth.

yeah, usually the gas pedal will work;)

damn, that's a pretty quick sixxer. My old srt-4 stage 2 was hitting the same time, though the top end on the freeway was insane (160 easy!)

Thanks, the 75 shot of nitrous makes the car pull pretty good. It surprised a guy in an older Firebird when we lined up at the track his friend called out "no problem, it's just a six" - then I treed him and he never caught me. They didn't want to talk afterwards.

HAHA! Poor sports huh? One of these days I'll have to catch you and your car in action. It looks as tho BBIII is out for me due to a family conflict that Friday night, so maybe another time.

To the OP, try different launching methods. I know my 60' times in the 4.0L/auto vert were better by just hammering the gas from a dead idle.

Brian, what part of Texas, which track(s)?

Yeah, rev up to 1800-2000 rpm with right foot on gas, left holding brake down firmly, then at the light, floor it, and keep it floored to the finish line. Simple.
(BTW, that's why I like this automatic for racing ;) )

how much did that 75 shot setup cost you when the dust settled, everything included, plus any gauges or switches you had to buy?

JimC 01-08-2009 08:08 PM

I bought the basic set up off Craigslist (bottle, brackets, lines, Zex nitrous management unit, purge) for only $250. I added a window switch for $50, a bottle heater for $75 (bought off members on other sites), picked up a bottle pressure guage for I think $25 and the dyno tune only cost me $125 for the update.
All the switches are mounted on a Speed of Sound cupholder switch that cost less than $50. The kit I bought came with a gauge that I didn't use because it required running a nitrous line into the car and I didn't want to have that.
The Zex system installs very easily.
