I've heard that the gt take off 8.8" rear axle has a posi installed already and can handle FI better than the 7.5", but which is better? gears and t-lok plus shipping all comes to $522.96. the 8.8 with 3.73 gears costs $1,038.43. this is all from www.v6mustangstuff.com

Be sure they are quoting you a price with the V6 pinion flange installed.

also, dont let your dealer touch the rear end, let a reputable tranny shop do it as they deal with that stuff every day and wont fugg it up

That sounds kinda high for a 8.8 with 373s; should be able to get one with 373s installed for 7-800 tops, or find a 8.8 with stock gears and have 373s put in.
They will hold up better for F/I setups, mainly due to having larger t-locs in them; the spider gears in both 7.5 an 8.8 tlocs will be the primary point.
If you are looking to support F/I later, getting either a 8.8 OR staying with the 7.5 with a detroit true-trac will work fine for you. The true-trac in a 7.5 will be stronger than the 8.8 tloc.
With just the t-loc and gears in a 7.5, you can still break the t-loc with sticky tires at the track with F/I. I used street tires with a 7.5 with 373s and a t-loc and never broke anything with 300hp, but the tires would spin at the line and not grip real solid; I didn't want to run the same rear end with drag radials or slicks, but once I got the 8.8 in all those worries are now gone.
Had I not found the 8.8 I was getting a true-trac for the 7.5.
So I guess it depends on what you find for how much. Either way, you want to do it right the first time and not have to worry about it.
