Launching our cars properly
#21
Launching from a little more than idle will help if you have any throttle lag to avoid the lag.
Yeah street tires just dont grip well for takeoffs, unless maybe you get some much better tires for the rear. I prefer to run street tires on the street and then drag radials to/from and at the track, changing the tires before each track visit.
Did you hurt anything? probably not. Is it good for the car: of course not. Is racing good for the car? no, but so what.
Actually, practicing on a safe-empty street just to launch, is not a bad idea, if you keep your speeds down and are safe. The reason I think so is, you don't want to get on a drag strip and try something and loose control and hit a rail or another vehicle.
And if you're getting a basic feel of what your car does, that's not a bad thing.
But you'll likely need better tires for good grip. Find some take-off rims (used/cheap) and put some tires on them, at least for the rear tires.
