Default First Gear Woes

I am tired of feeling stupid taking off at traffic lights.
I keep my V6 in neutral at traffic lights with my foot on the brake.
My Baby is very hard to shift into first at a dead stop, it sometimes take 2-3 pushes to get it into gear without feeling like I am really forcing it. Meanwhile the other traffic takes off...

While moving, even slightly, no problems, slips right in to first.
All other gears no problems either, including reverse.

Am I being too gentle or is something wrong? Or am I just stoopid paranoid?

id take it in and b*tch them out about it...who knows maybe you will get a new tranny for free...mine works fine shifts into first no problem...try holding the clutch in and rock the shifter left and right in neutral...maybe teh gears are getting stuck together

Next time you find it difficult to go into first, try pulling it into second from neutral, then up to first. 99% of the time it's just that the engagment dogs aren't lined up, and engaging another gear will usually rotate the gears just enough. In fact, that's just my regular routine - I developed a habit of going from neutral to second, then to first many cars ago. If it still doesn't go in, I engage the clutch half way and push the actuator lightly up against the syncros, then disengage and shift simultaneously as one smooth motion - the idea is to simulate a moving shift, allowing the syncro's to line up the dogs. If you do this, though make sure the clutch pedal is full depressed before you get past the syncro's or it will grind. Sounds complicated, but it's all very fast and smooth once you get the hang of it.

If none of that works, then yeah, take it to the dealer.
