Default 18"s VS 17"s VS 16"s

Right now I have the Sixxer rims. I'd like to upgrade to 18"s preferably but I've read that the bigger you go the less MPG you get and the less "comfort" you get (you'll get a bumpier ride) and less performance. I've read that this really comes into play with 20"s, which are way too big for my liking anyways. How much do these three things come into play with 17"s and 18"s? I would guess almost none with 17"s but I'm not sure with 18"s?

It has to do more with the tire than the rim. I went from 16's to 18's and went with big wide tires on the rear. Yes I feel more bumps, but was it a huge difference? no not at all, not until I lowered it.

I don't think you would regret going with 18's at all. And my MPG did not drop at all.

Yea I went from stock 16s to 18 and its all on the tire. Just pick a setup with the same overall diameter. MPG loss is debatable, depending on the weight difference of the wheels. Really, you wont look back after the swap, much improved. Ride will suffer if you drop it (most everyone does after rims to finish the look) but untill you do that I doubt you'll notice a change in comfort. I didnt. Just do your research and you'll make a smart choice.

Agree with above. Ride quality (not comfort) improved dramatically over the 17's...I can only image how the little 16's must feel!

I would never go back...no way. The planted and stable feeling of the 18's adds a real confidence to the car as the speeds increase. No question about that.

As for MPG...did not see a drop at all.

255/45/18. Virtually identical diameter to stock 215/65/16s. I dunno bout the 17s but I think they are all the same (from factory). After these wear out I wanna do 275s but thats about it for a 9" rim.

I'm going to start hunting through eBay/Classifieds until I can find a deal on them. I'm in no hurry.

How long have your guys' tires lasted you?

Also just curious; aren't these the same exact rims I have (except bigger) just painted black on the inside?

I would never buy these but it is a cool look with the inner black look to them.

while ride quality might not be noticeably different, accelaration and deceleration do slow down. i've had both 17" bullits and 18" fanblades, and i can say with absolute certainty that my car with the fanblades was sluggish both in accelarating from a dead stop and in braking. my dad can also confirm this. i'm personally putting off bigger wheels until i go fi. thats just me though.

This is where physics and practical application get fuzzy.

I put my wheels (17's to 18's) on AT the track (better tools) and had multiple runs both pre/post the install.

I will save the drama, but there was no difference. Runs varied by 1/8 second and were high/low on both ends.
