Default Mustang V6 VS. Camaro V6 - Curb Weight

I gotta admit Ive always been a fan of both cars.
I own a 2007 V6 Mustang and seeing the horsepower figures on the new 2010 Camaro V6 didnt look good for the stang.

After seeing the curb weight of the Mustang around 3350 lbs..
The Camaro at 3750lbs.. and doing the math..

It appears the mustang is not far off in the engine Torque to car weight ratio ..

I had a diablo tuner and removed my speedlimiter.. at least I thought.. ( diablo seems to rasie it - not remove it ) .. I got an SCT because friends in germany were driving their V6 mustang on the autobahn at 225 kph ( 140mph ) .. Anyways.. I do have the pony pack which the car comes with GT tires.. and a drive shaft loop )and verifying my speed with gps did get the car to 139..

Ive read the V6 Camaro comes speed limited to 118mph .. and SS Camaro 155mph..
Funny thing is the Cobalt SS will do 160mph ! How ****ty is that .. A Camaro getting beat by a cobalt ?

The thing to remember is that the mustang design has not really changed much since 2005 and so it is an old design vs a new design.

I've heard the 0-60 on the new camero v6 would be basically 6 seconds. The v6 mustang was always tuned for regular gas and the camero recommends premium. I bet in a manual v6 mustang with a tune you are pretty close to 6 seconds.

Honestly I don't like how the camero looks anyways. It's probably a good car, but to me it just seems too large. I think the vette is a great car though.

240lbs of torque is nice to have at 3500 RPM, but when you are racing you are generally running at higher RPM, so whatever your torque happens to be from 4500-6000 rpm really determines how you do. It's probably a good thing for us that our engines have a semi-short stroke given the large displacement for a v6.

Yeah man.. Ive done alot of tuning to the computer. I ran the car at many ranges and speeds to check out fuel/air at different rpms.. by logging a couple hours of long and short term fuel rails on the mustang Ive done some tweaks to the fuel at higher rpms.. I changed the rev limit from 6000 to nearly 6200 rpm.. completely removed the top speed limiter ( as previously noted ) and added to my maf and added fuel in the 4k + rpm range. The car seems to be in a state of runing lean in the higher rpms when you stomp it - when u have a high flow air filter or cold air intake.. either is much better then the flow u get with paper filters. U can really tweak the fuel and air and notice it.

I wish i could afford a supercharger.. but Im toying now with getting that Zex kit for the V6.. Comes with a computer .. so you dont need a window switch.. the computer it comes with acts as a swtich becuz it only kicks in nitrous at a certain rpm since we do have drive by wire throttles.. the computer in the kit also adjust for lean/rich states.. which prevents alot of damage you get with other kits when you dont know what you're doing. They used to have only one kit.. for the GT which worked perfect on the V6.. but now they have a v6 kit.. which comes with the same stuff.. except it comes with 55, 75, and 100 Horsepower tips.. instead of the 75 and bigger tips for the GT.. This way you can go as low as 55 horsepower and not worry you are hurting your V6..

One more thing.. You mentioned the design of the mustang as being pretty much the same from 2005..

Agree'd

Im wondering if the rumors of new engines for 2010 mustangs are true ?
Im sure Ford didnt want to hurt bad sales even more in this bad economy. ( in case you didnt hear there's a recession going on - but you wouldnt know it when you go out to eat at olive garden - busy as hell ! )

Supposedly they have a new V6 for the low end.. and a new V8 as well?

What kind of RPM's are safe to run at with the 4.0L and what is it's weak spot? One thing I noticed is that the engine sounds more like a high RPM engine than a low RPM engine. My last car was a lancer ralliart and that thing, the engine would keep pulling hard up to the redline at 7000 rpm. If you were not careful you would bang it against redline unintentionally because power didn't seem to cut off.

Hey lundefined..

Ive heard of people changing the rpm rev limit to 6400 rpms.. but I only raised mine 200 rpm ( from fords factory setting of 6000) .. Id say 6200 is safe.. since the manufacturer often sets conservative limits.. One thing im still working on is shift points.. shift at what rpm is what im saying. What state u in ?
