Default Wheel Fit?

I own a 2009 standard v6 coupe, I am going to change the stock wheels to something chrome on my all black car. I do not like most of these new style wagon wheel looking things with rubber bands for tires! They will be 17's at largest with tires that will be close to the same circumferance as my stock 16's to maintain my 22+ mpg daily. Here is the question, my first choice are the cobra r's that came on the earlier models prior to '05 but I get contradicting info on fit. One tire store tells me they will fit ok, just stick out a little more, another tells me that they will rub on the brakes. I am looking at 17x9's with a 24mm offset. If they in fact will not fit then I will likely go with Chrome bullitts that I know will fit. Does anyone have an answer?

Those are 24mm offset.
The 05-09 uses a 45mm offset for the 17x8" OEM rims.
They will stick out 21mm or about 0.825 or 7/8" more
than the 05-09 17x8s.
It is not too much and looks kinda good.

There will be zero brake rubbage.

And a big plus as to the offset, no 17" steering stops will be needed to prevent rubbage.
17" or 18" Chrome Bullitts? There is a brake caliper bracket issue with the OEM 18x8.5" Bullitts...

What about back spacing, is that the distance from the mounting hub surface to the back edge of the wheel? looking at the specs of the two types of wheels, the difference in offset and back spacing seem to be about the same!

With the rim width being the same,
the offsets can be compared like apples to apples.
The backspacing is not influenced by width like offset is.....
Width influences offset, not backspacing.
