Default About to buy my first car...

I've been saving up since 6th grade and I turn 17 in July...finally.

I'm set on a V6, I went to a few dealerships by me last Thursday and I found a couple that were worth a second look.
The top contender right now is a 2006 white with pony package. I test drove it and it's SICK, but that could just be because it was the first day I had ever driven a Mustang.
They're asking $16,700. It's a CPO, 18,000 miles, pony package leather interior all that good stuff.
I'd rather get a car thats a couple of years older with all the extras than a 09 bare bones one, especially since this ones CPO the warranties would be about the same.

I did some reading but I still have a few questions. Do you all think this is a good deal? I figure I can get it down a few hundred if anything. Are there any specific things I should check out or beware of? It looks properly maintained and it ran great, but I'm going to have it looked at by a mechanic I know just in case.

This is my first car and I can't believe the hours finally upon me.

Thanks for your time.

That price is high. I paid 16,700 for my 2009 V6 premium with 13,000 miles.

That is way to high. I bought my 06 v6 brand new for 21k and it has leather, shaker 500 and the color gauges. You should be able to find left over '09s for 17k or 18k. IMO that '06 should be 12k AT MOST!!!!!!! The new 2010s start off at 20k so let that gauge you. You can find 03, 04 cobra's for 16k.

Look at kbb.com. I did a base model 5spd search and it says 14,425. You should defiantly go with your parents because they JACKED that price up. Keep in mind that dealerships make more money on used cars than on new and on average list the car for $2,500 more than what they got it including any money the had to put into it.

When I was at ford looking at used Mustangs the salesmen said they really want to sell off all the pre-owned ones first and they have more wiggle room in terms of price. I remember looking at a 2006 V6 convertable that was around 16,000 I didn't like it but the guy said I'll take a 1,000 off and I never even showed any interest in it. So if you really want this car, fight them on the price and since it's used even though they may make more money they have the ability to take more off rather then the new ones.

Also I found another that I was so so committed on in terms of having paperwork done, but when they couldn't come down on price I walked out. Wasted 2 hours of my life but it made me realize I didn't wanna part with my Redfire machine anyway. Happiest day in a long time

KKB trade in on that car is only around $11000. Giving the dealer has to make some mony on the sale. Go back with your parents and offer about $13000. And be willing to Walk out and look for a better deal.

Check craigslist too. I got my 05 base with interior upgrade package and about 16k miles for 13000 last year, there's almost alway good deals on craigslist.

I was there with my parents, and we looked at a few others, but this is the first time I've looked. We went to another dealership and they were asking all 17 or 18 for their 08s and 09s (used) the lowest I could bring them down was 17 for an 09 bare bones so I just walked out.
I checked kbb and it says for an "excellent condition" (which it is definitely not) $15,970.
The only difference is that this guy is going to go through the certifying process with Ford. Does it really cost that much more to certify a car?

To be honest with you all, I'd rather have the pony package and all that stuff than have an 09. I worked harder than I could've ever imagined to get this car and simply put I want the one that I want, but in realistic terms, I don't see much of a difference between an 06 with the cpo warranty and an 09 with the factory warranty.

be patient man. I was in the same situation as i am also turning 17 in july i just bought my 05 v6 mustang sonic blue. It has 45k miles shaker 1000 leather, and all the other upgraded features. and i bought it for $9500 last week. keep looking and try to buy a mustang for under $12000 then think about it you'll have $4000 extra bucks to do sick mods to it. good luck bro.
