Default Installing Tune

Hey guys.

At work right now, but planning on installing the C&L and Tune from bama when I get home. I went through Lethaldosage's walkthrough (https://mustangforums.com/forum/4-0l...with-pics.html)

but I am a little confused on the tune install. I have read that some people have backed up their stock tune onto the computer, is this possible and if so how? Also can I backup the tunes that bama put on it? Is there anything special I need to do besides plugging it in and following the on screen instructions?

Lastly I received and SF3 from Doug and not the X3. I have read that the SF3 can't have custom tunes on it, so what’s the deal? Is the SF3 the same as the X3?

The SCT Xcal will automatically backup the stock tune onto itself. If you want to back it up onto your computer, just use SCT's software that you can download from their site. I wouldn't worry too much about backing up your Bama tunes. If anything ever happens, Doug is just an email away and your tunes are too.

As for the SF3 and X3, perhaps this info from SCT's website helps:

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING X3 & SF3 Power Flash Devices sold prior to July 25th, 2008:

SCT has recently updated the firmware for all X3 & SF3 devices. These devices now have different firmware that will effect all future updates for your device.

X3 devices part #3000 sold after July 25th, 2008 will now only be used for custom tuning and will no longer contain pre-loaded tunes. The SF3 device part #3015 will hold 3 custom tunes and will ship with pre-loaded tunes as in the past.

If you have purchased an X3 device part #3000 or SF3 device part #3015 prior to July 25th, 2008, your device is now considered an SF3 device part #3015, even though the device stickers may state it is a part #3000. When updating your device with any future firmware or tune revisions, you must use the SF3 part #3015 device updates or you will receive an error when updating the device.

Devices sold after July25th, 2008 should use the matching firmware for the part number on the device sticker.

I downloaded the LiveLink software, is that what I need to use to get the custom tunes from the device?

Think you could direct me on how to do this. I was looking at the livelink software last night but didn't see anywhere to import files from the SF3 to the computer.

Got everything installed LOOKS great RUNS great!

I had to use the 87 tune because bama sent me the 94 octane instead of the 91. I emailed Doug so hopefully he will be able to send me the correct tune. I still had some 87 in the tank so its probably for the best, I will be able to run that out now instead of pumping it.

Kind of worried I'll be getting the wrong tunes myself. Seems alot of people suffer that result of being sent the wrong tunes. Oh well
