they ended up machining the pin. The gears whine slightly but not bad.

was this shop your only local option? a true "gear/drivetrain" shop would likely have had the parts needed to complete the install instead of having the customer obtain parts for them. not knocking the shop, just wondering if that was your only option for your specific mod. what are they charging you?

It wasn't the only option but I know this guy has done alot of gear installs on classic cars so I went with it.

labor was 325$ and he sold me a rebuilt T-lok for 50$. 159+ 75 for the gear and installation kit so I paid 609$.

I can't say that the labor cost was the best possible price, but I am sure they have done this type of job countless times. I'm not sure why they didn't have the part but the guy said he has had it lots of times before.

I've been driving it around carefully and I notice that it whines about the same volume no matter what speed on coast, but not as much under power. My strategy is to try to drive it in break in so that it whines the least, then check the wear pattern after 500 miles when the fluid is changed.

So far the torque in first gear and how much closer together the gears are feels awesome.

the whine will not go away if its already there. at best it will decrease some. if it doesnt bother you now then you should be good in the long run. i should warn you though... what may not bother you now may begin to annoy down the road. this has been the case with mufflers and drone.

as far as the performance goes... it is awesome indeed! enjoy!

I also went with MOTIVE gears because I spent hours and hours searching for FRPP "A" gears but could no longer find them available. Added the T-lok at the same time. Been in 3 weeks now. Had to tweak the shift points a little myself (to my satisfaction) but happy. I was there for the whole install - Ford mechanic buddy. Gears feel better. I will admit a little whine, only on throttle, from 59-66 MPH. However, with the couple hundred bump in RPMs, drone is now much less, so it's a tradeoff.

What I noticed about the whine for me is that it is worse during coast at certain speeds and silent at others. IF I put it in neutral and coast there is no noise where it would normally whine with engine braking.

I honestly don't mind the noise as long as it isn't going to break on me.
