Vinyl Hood Stripe looking faded . . . .
I purchased my Mustang a year ago and it came with the hood stripes directly from the dealership. I have had no problems with them at all till recently, it looks as if the hood stripes is starting to fade in color. I had the car waxed a month ago, but the hood stripe started to fade 2 weeks ago, I don't believe the waxing was the culprit, but not sure what else it could be. Has anyone else have had this same problem? and is there a fix besides getting the stripes re-done?
thanks,

That's one of the biggest down falls for having vinyl stripes. Eventually they fade, crack and peel. The only way to have stripes to last a long time is to have them painted on. Only other option is when applying vinyl, have a coat of clear coat sprayed over them, but that will only prevent the inevitable for a while.
Do you keep your car in direct sun a lot? A car cover would help slow down the aging process.

ive had my car for two and a half years, my stripes are perfect, i keep my car garaged when not in use. never left in the sun
the common thread from complaints on cracking fading vinyl stripes is that folks leave the cars in the sunlight and heat, subject to uv rays..

Exactly, if they keep their cars uncovered for long periods of time in intense sunlight, the vinyl will not hold up as long.

When I researched my stripe I heard of certain colors were prone to fading more than others. Drop a line to Rob at BSM(Baltimore Street Mods), he should be able to answer your question. He's very knowledgeable on this topic.

I usually keep my car in a garage during the day, so I really dont have it directly in the sun much, but the past 3 weeks I have been on vacation and have had the car parked outside and since last week is when I noticed the fading, weird, I didnt think it would be from the sun as it has only been directly in the sun recently. Looks like I will need to get the stipes re-done, anyone have an idea on how much it will cost?

Just to be sure, is it actually fading or just duller looking than the paint?
There is a difference, just asking.
Even under good wax, my stripes were never as shiny as the paint. But they haven't faded yet either, after over 3 years. It mostly sits in a garage during the hot days, but not always.
