Default 93 Race Tune question

I thought I had read once that when you a get a bama custom tune it would make it so that your overdrive would not kick on until 60 MPH. Mine is on like always, all the time. When I have the race tune I always have to turn it off because it seems to slow me down. Anyone else have this issue? Do you turn the overdrive off?

I ran the 91 race for a while. Yes it would go into overdrive at lower speeds. On the highway it would kick in and out of overdrive all the time. It got annoying. It's a great in town tune, but I didn't care for it on the highway. I like the 91 performance much better for a DD and on the highway.

i dont see this as an issue. the race tune was developed for "race" characteristics, not highway cruising. punch your car from a dig and see if it acts the same. turning off the O/D isnt that difficult, is it?

I am refering to when you first step on it. It seems to be slower from the get go.

Yeah, I see the same thing happen on my automatic on the highway. I'm still running Bama 93 race tune, but it is damn annoying when for no reason at all, every 20 seconds or so, the rpms jump up and then back down with no input from me. The only way, I can stop that, is to put the car on cruise control. I love the response of the tune in town, but highway characteristics suck. Since I drive 80% highway, and can't drive on cruise controll all the time, I just might have to go back to my trusty old Brenspeed 93 tune with is almost as good. Lacks a bit in touchy pedal feel, but at least the rpms stay where you put them with your right foot, and not osilate all over the place with no input.... Maybe his 93 Performace tune would fix that,.. just don't care to spend 50 bucks to find out.... Just my 2 cents worth..

I don't have any problems quite like that. I just wondered if I was accurate about what I thought I read about the overdrive being turned off automatically. Sounds like something I have to do myself. No big deal, just trying to figure it out.

When I talked to Doug over the phone he said the 93 performance tune is the same as the 93 race tune, with the exception of the throttle settings. Give the 93 torque tune a try. The torque tune is a completely different tune and is meant to be used for daily driving.

+1......... again, i wouldnt judge the race tune on its "crusing" characteristics. the torq tune is a great DD and travel tune. also gets the best mpg's from my experience.

SAFETY NOTICE: If you are using a 93 Tune, make sure you have 93-Oct fuel in the Car... Also, you can have an 87 Tune in with 93-Oct Fuel, but not 87 fuel and 93 Tunes.

Had a buddy of mine the other day forget to fill up with 93OCT while he had a 93 Tune in... his car was acting really weird, and I told him to put the 87 tune in just in case he didn't get 93 Fuel, and that solved the problem, hopefully he didn't hurt anything before he switched tunes...
