Question Seeking MPG Info., Advice, Suggestions, -Focus? Fusion?? Milan??? NOT NECESSARILY!

So I'm looking for a used (2nd-hand or "CPO") vehicle for months...beatin' my head against a wall because it just has to be a FoMoCo product, and convinced that $4/gal fuel is sure to return - sooner...or later.

All I can think is; "Focus, or Fusion"? - "Focus or Fusion"? - "Focus or Fusion (maybe a Milan?)"?" But neither (of the three) is really what I want......and then it (finally) hits me: "What about a MUSTANG"!?!

So I desperately need to know: what sort of (real-world) MPG's are these 6-bangers gettin' - on average? And how much might I be able to reduce weight (increase MPG's) with Fiberglass/Carbon Fiber, under-hood tweaks, etc. - and how much might all that set-me-back??

Help! Please! (and thanks in advance).

Can't speak for the 6 cylinder, but my 05 GT currently gets almost 23mpg average on a weekly basis of 50/50 mixed city / interstate driving back and forth to work. The car is a 5 speed with 50,000 miles and the only thing I have done is exhaust. It consistently gets between 26-28mpg on trips down I-85. Although the mileage can plummet quickly if my right foot starts itching. My wife can usually squeeze a couple of extra mpg when she drives it.

Thanks for the reply.

I suppose with the 8-cyl. my foot would get a li'l itchy on occasion too - but these days, as old as I'm gettin' now, I reckon I drive 'like a girl'...90% of the time anyway ... of course, that still leaves the other 10%!

And "23" ain't bad at all for an 8 and a 50/50 mix - and "28" is excellent in my book.

Thanks again...

Thanks. I ("naturally") read the sticky after I had posted it here, so I guess (?) maybe I should just let it hang here a bit, I suppose, to see if an admin/moderator would be so kind as to move it - and so as not to have duplicate posts in separate forums.

Thanks again to all, and in advance...

PS - ooops - you are a moderator - so I reckon I best move-it, eh?

That's about what I get with my 6er. I have a 93 octane tune, C&L Cold Air Kit, 3.73 gears (with t-lok), and dual exhaust. Most of my driving is highway now, and I average about 70mph on the highway.. and like to slam down the pedal occasionally.
