Default replacing shifter ****

ive got an 05 v6 manual. i have the stock shifter and the wrapping around my shift **** is tearing from the **** so i want to replace it. it doesnt seem like it will unscrew. i tried to unscrew it and it felt like the whole pillar the **** is on twisted too. doesnt seem right. any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. do i need to put a new shifter in the car to be able to replace it?

Default The same thing happened to me when I changed mine

you just have to grab the shaft tightly to make sure it doesn't turn, its only hand tight. As said earlier removing the boot makes it alot easier.

Be aware that the S197 has M12x1.25 metric threads
and not the more common SN95 M12x1.75 shifter **** threads....
