Default Need Suggestions on Dual Exhaust for 09 Convertible Mustang.

Hello all,

I'm looking to upgrade my exhaust to a dual exhaust. Main reason for exhaust is for visual. The aftermarket bumper that I am putting on my mustang has 2 exhaust ports. Mainly looking for something that will not increase the sound. Almost every post I've seen has options for louder exhaust... not softer. Since my car is a convertible I'd like to keep the sound down to a minimum. Is there such a thing as a quiet dual exhaust?

I've seen some dummy dual exhaust set ups and I'd rather not put something fake on my car.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,

Quietest and safest bet against drone I can think of would be GT mufflers from an automatic. Maybe a generic aftermarket replacement, but with how cheap the GT takeoffs are that's most likely the best bet.

You'll need either an H or X pipe along with mid pipes to complete your duals with a set of GT mufflers.
I went with Pypes X pipe and mid pipes and set of GT manual mufflers. If the Ford Racing Performance Parts would have had duals when I was in the market for them, I would have bought them first. I strongly recommend them;

You could do a pypes x and mids and then throw on some gt takeoffs.

Running GTAs on my ragtop and it sounds amazing. It may sound a bit different on a V6, but these were a nice upgrade from the stock mufflers as it added just a touch more muscle car sound without being too much with the top dropped.

If it's just for looks, the Ninosport kit with GT takeoffs
is real simple, well made, and you don't have to cut
anything, just tap the holes for the driver's side muffler
mounts. It sounds great too. $280 + takeoff muffs.

Hello again,

Just wanted to give an update. Installed the the Pypes new take off x pipe with auto gt mufflers. Sound is a little on the loud side and it seems to drone a little. Anyone know if there are way's of toning this thing down? There were some things attached to my old v6 mufflers that I had a question about. I think it's what they call a Harmonic balancer? or some kind of resonators? not sure. Here's a link to a picture of one:

Will this help with quieting it down? there were actually 2 of them attached to the old muffler.

Also my Pypes kit came with some clamps that look like this:

anyone have any idea where they go in the installation?

Again thanks for all the help.

The two things mounted on the exhaust pipe are to help keep the droning down. They are not harmonic balancers. The harmonic balancer is attached to the front of the engine.

If you want to cut some of the droning down, you can get a couple resonators. Install them in the exhaust system, but be sure to space them out. The "droning" is caused by the exhaust sounds traveling through the pipes. The sound is a little different as it goes down the pipes, but when both pipes make the exact same wavelength (sound) at the exact same time, they cause the "drone." To eliminate or reduce it you need to make both sides a little different. Put a resinator in one side at a given spot. Then put another one in a few inches away from that spot on the other pipe. Its kinda hard to explain.

The clamps are to hold the pipes in your exhaust kit together. How did you do it? Did you have a different style clamp or weld it?
