Default how wide a tire will fit on a s197

Iam looking at new rear tires. I am looking at 295/45r18 or 305/35r18. my car came with 235/50-18 on the 2010 18" wheels stock. Could I tuck either of these size tires under the stock 2009 v6 stangs rear? thanks Jeff

It depends on the wheel width and offset. If the stock wheels are 8.5" wide, the widest RECOMMENDED tire is a 255 for that size rim (in most cases).

Check the tire specs for various brands and models of tires on sites such as tirerack.com to see what the wheel widths are for various tires.

I am running 18x9 with a 24mm offset in the rear, and I have them wrapped in 285/40 R18. They stick out past the fender a bit, but look really aggressive and great.

I have seen 275/40-18s recommended for 8.5" wide rims.
I went the wrong route with the 255/45-18s on 8.5" wide rims.

The rim width and offset determines the widest tire you can cram under there.
Give us the rim info and a recommendation can be made from there...
