Thumbs up GAS MILAGE!!???!?!?!! WTF

the other day i filled up and drove home about 12 miles and with in about 10 of those miles i was on the highway and i was getting 29 MPG!!!!!! ive NEVER gotten that good of milage before. i have 3.73 and bama 87 tune w/ BBK CAI, plus it was (i think in the low 50's, if that makes a difference). just curious if anyone has gotten this kinda fuel economy. i know that was a very short distance, but like i said, no matter how far ive gone, ive never gotten 29 MPG.

Mine has read readings like that. With me having a manual I coast a lot to stop lights. Best way to check your MPG is to do it the old fashion way....calculate with pen and paper. I do this every time I fill up on every vehicle I own just to make sure nothing unusual is occurring.

You can't go by such a short # of miles. But filling-up, resetting the avg mpgs and then immediately getting on the highway and cruising in the "sweet zone" should yield very decent #'s. Your true average is considered to be what the on-board says when you pull in for your next fill-up. Try to ignore it and NOT reset it until then.

Be aware that most on-boards have been typically off to the conservative side by 1-2 MPG. The best way to know what your real MPG is is to hand calculate it.

My best highway mileage was also 29.1 mpg BUT that was an average over 405 miles and 13.9 gal. of gas. The computer is an instantaneous reading and your conditions were probably perfect! Lots of fun but not truly accurate.

Ever since I added a boost gauge, I stopped looking at the fuel gauge

Best mgp I ever got on a full tankfull was 27.1. That was 95% highway driving at about 60-65 mph with the top up the whole time. I think convertibles may get a little less mpg than coupes because of drag and weight.

I do know that the sweet spot for the GT's engine is in the 1600-1800 RPM range for my best fuel economy but I rarely will run the entire length of fill-up to fill-up at the speeds associated with that RPM range (which for me is between roughly 55-65 MPH with my set-up). I HAVE run that on a few occasions and my hand calculated avaerage was a little over 27 MPG. But I usually will run 70-75 MPH where my average drops to 23-24 MPG. Lots and lots of variables. I can drive the identical stretch of road at the same speed as previous trips with very similiar environmental conditions and my MPG's can vary by 2-3 MPG. I'm also sure that the higher the ethenol % the lower my fuel economy.l

I can average 30+ if i hit reset when i get on the highway and drive 60. It will stay at 30 as long as im going 60 mph pretty much. City driving or anything other then a constant 60 is another story. Now that im not commuting to school im averaging 18.X but then again im in a GT
