Shaker 500 stops playing burned CDs?
In the first two years since I purchased my 2005 V6, my Shaker 500 CD changer has not had trouble digesting any burned CDs. But after experiencing/repairing a recent electrical problem (bad alternator) The CD player will skip erratically with burned CDs and/or the audio track will sound like static.
the radio receiver works fine, and conventional store-bought CD's seem to play with no problems. FYI my burned CDs are created in audio format (not the data or mp3 option) using Itunes. Neither my old or newly burned CDs play. Any ideas?
Also, if I need to replace the unit, is it true that I may need to have the replacement "programmed" at a Ford dealership in order for it to properly function? I can swap the unit myself, but can I also program at home without any special equipment?
Thanks.

Store boughts and Burned CDs are
two totally different recording mediums.
One using aluminum for the reflective
layer and the other using an organic
compound. The reader head can no
longer read the organic compound
reflective surface.
Yes, module configuration will be needed
for a new OEM stereo head unit.
