Are my RPM's too high?
Hi all!
First time posting here.
Quick intro to the problem: I'm twenty years old, and frankly I'm just starting to learn/become interested in the mechanics of cars. I started to become interested when I bought my first mustang, a 2004 red V6 coupe, last march. Unfortunately she was totalled this past November when she fishtailed, caught on a curb, and flipped. (no injuries, fortunately, to myself or anyone else).
My new ride is a 2005 Windveil Blue (hence my creative sn) V6 coupe. I bought it December 18th at a Mercedes dealership in NY. Again with background information...for a vehicle they SAID they fully inspected...within the first twenty days of ownership I've already had to replace all four brake pads, two rotors, both front ball joints, and within the next week or so I need to get it aligned, as it's a liiiiitle bit off.
However, since I bought it, and most notably the past couple weeks, I've noticed that it's averaging far higher RPM's than my '04. For all I know this is normal, but somehow it seems off...so this evening on my way home from work, since the highway was empty, I did a little test:
Cruising at 40mph - 2000 RPM
Accelerating 40mph to 60mph over APPROX 4seconds: reached 4500 RPM before dropping to 2100 RPM.
60mph to 80mph over APPROX 4seconds: 5000 RPM before dropping to 3500 RPM.
O/D was engaged for all tests, cruise control was not used at 40mph cruising test.
This morning, while accelerating very quickly from a stop to abou 65 mph on the highway (from a red light) I very nearly redlined, if I didn't actually edge in to it. THis definitely seems high to me...any thoughts?

That is kind of high, at 1750 rpm you should be doing 60 mph. Are you sure someone didn't change your rear gears? sounds about right for 3.73s, definitely high for 3.31s.
