Default tire size question

I found someone that is wanting to sell me his tires that have 98% tread life left and they where mounted on 9" wide rims, i told him mine where 8.5" wide, and he said they would still work... is this true?

yep, you can use up to a 255 series on stock 8.5" rims. I've even seen 275's but they bulged a little.

Not enough information. What size are the tires? Not just the width - you need to supply the aspect ratio as well. And actual tire dimensions will vary slightly between different tire manufacturers, even tho the stated size is the same (perhaps moreso with drag radials than street tires). Check the tire manufacturer's website to see what rim size they recommend for that size tire.

The OP has a 2008, so the stock 17" rim width is 8", not 8.5". He must have aftermarket rims. I forget the width on the 16" rims, but I don't think he has those on his car if he said the (aftermarket) rim is 8.5" wide.
