Cams wiped out? You mean the cam bearings are wiped? That wouldn't cause many problems with it starting. unless it puts too much stress on the chains trying to drive it.

Cam lobes, the hardened surface is very thin and once you wear through it the rest of the lobe gets rounded out real quick.

If that was the case, it wouldn't be firing as easily as it is. It needs a valve sequence for all that good stuff to work.

Although we could hear a couple cylinders fire, she's being very stubborn and still refuses to start.

sorry for the delay folks,
to clear up the legalities, it was a small shop that did the oil change, they are closed sundays (relating my inability to get a new receipt). the warranty was up 15k miles ago (which is why it was voided, but i suppose "void" was the wrong word choice - my apologies for the confusion). i drove it home (6 miles) with no problems. left it overnight. drove it the next day when i noticed the oil light during my commute (assuming that's when the old gasket blew).
All the info is really helping guys, thanks a lot. I'm learning this all as i go along, but still, i'm learning. i'm taking all of this advice to the high school near my house's auto shop for an evaluation and to see if they want to work on it.
jimkaray and nuclearmuscle523, i'd like to thank you guys personally for most (if not all) of the [helpful] info.

but seriously, engines. where can they be found?
and i'm not really too particular about miles.

tell them to turn around and touch their toes.
the only reason you take it to the dealership is because
they are suppose to be pros. just imagine what will happen if they
swap the engine
"you car just randomly caught fire...there was noting we could do"
