Exclamation Loud Bang After Turning Heater On: WTF?

For the past week I've been dealing with a loud bang or pop coming from the driver's side after I turn the heat on...seems to be coming from somewhere under the hood or under the floor panels. Sometimes there's also a musty smell coming from the vents but I can't find a water leak anywhere. The heater functions normally but the noise was loud and I could feel it, very strange. These symptoms are sporadic and hard to replicate.

Any ideas what the hell this might be? I'm still under factory warranty...

Yea, that's no big deal. That's just the recirculating flap under the dash closing. On my truck it does the same thing. A big slap, flap or thud is what it sounds like. It sounds really strong because the heater core and the air adjustment flaps (I forget the proper name) is right next to the accelerator pedal. Look down there and you'll be able to see it. The way to avoid that musty smell is to change your cabin air filter, and every so often remember to use outside air for recirculating. If you use inside air often you can get bacterial build up inside the A/C coils.

Eww. I'm having the cabin air filter replaced for its 30K mi. service. These Stangs sure have their little quirks--that bang really got my attention today.

I wouldn't wait that long. It's really easy to replace and gets really, really dirty. I replaced my wife's on her car at 12K and it was FILTHY! It's really easy to replace, and you can get one at any auto parts for under $20. Just lift up the plastic behind where the battery is and pull the old one out, put new one in and you're done. Read up on it here:

I believe that would be the Panel/Floor door. The Blend door is on the passenger side and all are supposed to be motor controlled.
