Boring out the 4.0L engine
Is it worth having the engine bored out and what are the pros n cons.

Too pricey to build up the V6 stock block, imo.
Better off to do some type of forced induction and call it good. If you want more, then swap in a blown V8. |
blown V8?
|
V8 with a blower like a whipple supercharger.

what would i need to change on the car if i did that just the rear end?

Just get one of these.
http://www.newtakeoff.com/mustang_v6...373_ratio.aspx They bolt right in. Nothing else needed. I did mine in my driveway by myself. PM JimC here to see what kind of price he can get you. Also you can contact Paulboy on Mustang Collective. JimC is there as well. I had better customer service from Paulboy than I got from New Take Off. I know JimC is a really good guy as well. |
the V6 engine is a nice little stout assembly. But I've read that boring it out makes the cylinder walls too thin, due to the water jackets.
After running a blower on my V6 for 2 years with a V6, it held up nicely. Think about your goals and plans for the car, what you want, etc. Swapping in a V8 can cost less than building a V6, depending in what you find for what price and if you can do a lot of the work yourself. But, it's not an easy task; lots to it. Slap a blower on the stock engine and you're good to go! |
