Keep what you like man, that's my advice. There's the potential of the car having problems too, which would cost more money. I love my 6 and I'm never going to get rid of it, a mustang is a mustang.

If the GT is a manual, I'd be all over it. Even if it isn't, I might take it over the S197 V6, I'd have to drive it first though.

When my v6 04 New Edge got totaled, I told myself I was going to 'upgrade' to 99-03 GT. But when I saw the *** on the 08, the 1/4 windows, the hood draping over the grill, I HAD to have it, even in base form. When I had my 04 (back in 03), I never thought I'd have a s197.

If I were you, I'd keep your pony and mod from there. AM soup'd up a 2005 v6 and made it pretty quick. You should check it out.

hey man, its obviously your decision, but someone said it above. .5 seconds is not nearly enough to convince me to trade in my gorgeous car for that cheap/dated looking exterior and craptastic interior (i drove an 03 dsg sixer several years ago.....although i did like the color). just save for a little while, do a clinical study or two (i'm doing one at the end of this month that will pay 1300 dollars for four days) and you can start modding pretty quick. this summer i'm adding dual exhaust with an x pipe and bassani mufflers. i'm pretty pumped about it.

keep your car(and get a cai tune), or trade your car in for an s197 gt if you got the cash. I wouldnt trade my car even in its stock for an older gt, not counting cobras and other limited edition cars

I would only consider going to the older body style, if it where a SVT Cobra or Saleen. They have a ton more power and the interior looks a little better than the plain GT.
Simple CAI/Tune can add some HP to your S197. =-)
Good luck on your decision!

Test drive the GT, find major problems with it, then find a nice escort for your bro. Save some money for the family and don't put the kid in a muscle car. How old is he?

Well turns out the dealer decides to tell us this car was salvaged and rebuilt - apparently when the car had only 500 miles on it, it got in a wreck. So no way in heck am I taking that thing.
Also after realizing that they are only .5 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile I wouldn't take one now... for some reason I thought they were a little quicker than that.
Realistically (and pretending I had the funds) what would I need for mods to have an even race with an 04 GT or have just a little edge over one?

Also after doing taxes I'm getting some money back that I wasn't expecting so I'm thinking I'll throw some duals on, and this summer hopefully a CAI+Tune

Duals look great, however they won't really add much HP, but the CAI/Tune will!

If you are looking for appearance mods first, then the duals maybe the way to go. However, if you are looking for a performance mod, the CAI/TUNE is the way to go!
I decided to pass on the dual set up due to not being able to get the money back for it when I decide to sell the Stang.
It's up to you!

with just a CAI and a tune i think it would be possible to beat a stock 04 GT
it of course depends how good of a driver u are
i got a 15 flat but theres something wrong with my tune that causes a drop in HP. ive been meaning to post up my dyno sheet to ask about it but im too lazy lol
