Difference in 7.5 and 8.8 rear end?

8.8 is bigger. Thus it handles more power. + T-Lok and gears and you're all set to add some nice power. I think some people have supercharged on the 7.5 though as well, not sure.

Well just a personal opinion, but if you're gonna spend the cash to make it go, you may as well upgrade to the 8.8 as well. Especially because it doesn't cost a ton. You can buy take-offs for 800-900 bucks. Edit...newtakeoff.com is selling a 2005-2009 8.8 GT takeoff for 600 bucks...

Before you start adding power change to an 8.8 and save yourself big headaches in the future. When the rear end comes apart it can be a mess, save yourself the hassle.

a properly built 7.5 will handle anything you can throw at it with the 4.0
its lighter than an 8.8
unless youre trying to swap an engine down the road and try to make +500rwhp no need for an 8.8, or if youre a heavy hitter 4.0 constantly hitting the track with slicks. but again an 8.8 with a t-lok wont handle that either.
my 7.5 with an auburn and 4.10 gears cost me 800 thats quite a bit less than what people are selling 8.8s with 4.10s in them.

Just remember that 8.8s are heavier than 7.5s and the unsprung weight changes
and the springs/shocks should also be changed. And the Cobra Pinion Flange...
It goes on and on.
If you have the HP, yes.
If not, there is a 7.5" T-Loc available for around $200-$250 buckolas.
