Having trouble going into gear on manual

Having trouble going into gear on manual
My 2006 Mustang 4.0 (almost 22,000 miles) is having some shifter issues. Sometimes when I am at a light and I go to put it into first, it won't go, as if something is blocking it...I try to put it in second then into first and that sometimes works but it also blocks second half the other time (this is all when my car is stopped). Sometimes with force it will go into first After I get it moving it shifts perfect, no grinding or anything. I do have a Hurst short throw shifter and I am thinking of putting the stock shifter back in to see if it is any better because the Hurst has always been kind of stiff. I really never drive my car hard...maybe every once and a while I'll open her up but that's sometimes so I am hoping it's not the transmission as I am in college and don't have a huge income!! So what may be problem? I am thinking the Hurst has got to go. This is probably been posted before so please forgive me! thanks!!!!

When that happens I hunt for a gear that it will slip into, if not 2nd try 3rd or 4th. Then go back and retry 1st. If there is still resistance then try another gear then back to 1st. Just a reminder that it isn't a good idea to keep it in 1st and just hold down the clutch for any extended period of time. That will keep the throw out bearing spinning and it will overheat shorting its life span.

Oh it's good to hear I'm not the only one...I'm still a little worried it's the syncros or clutch going but 22k miles seems kind of low for that to happen already...going from 3rd-4th then to first works most of the time...and no I really never hold the clutch in unless I know I will be moving in next few seconds

Your tranny internals are not spinning.
You holding the clutch depressed during
these times in neutral at a stop?
Let the clutch out to get the internals spinning
and then re-depress it and shift into 1st.
All trannies do this and its the drivers
fault if it wont go into gear.
Try sitting at the light with the clutch
let out in neutral and then depress it
and shift into first when the light turns green??
Reverse has a lock-out so no wonder it wont go in half the time, MARKIII.
Read the owners manual bout the 4th then R method Ford recommends....
You dont have 'to live with it'. Master the shifter, dont let it master you....

Haha ouch! Thats 2005Redfire6 to you! .
Why would it have a lockout if I'm sitting still and it won't go into reverse? I would understand that if I was moving.

When I sit at a light, I keep it in neutral with my foot off the clutch. Never had problems with it. Once in a while it is hard to get in Reverse....I just left off the clutch and try again.
Of course I've been driving manuals since 1980.

Oh, its locked out until you unlock it by putting it into 4th.
OWNERS MANUAL....
Call Ford and ask them suckas bout the mistaken 5th to 6th shifts
and the killed trannies as a result.
Speed or no speed, you are LOCKED OUT.
Wanna see the service manual showing how it works
and how it is assembled and how to troubleshoot
customer concerns like yours?
