I make lots of edits trying to get things straight. Bet you missed the last one, about how anybody might have stumbled across locating the H there instead of up near the engine.

You either expect this from physics, cut and try just to experiment, or do it because you heard somebody else's pipes that were crossed over that way and liked it.
