Welcome to the forums malkaysi, glad you like your 'stang. The idling will get smoother also as the engine breaks in more as well.

They sure are - congratulations on your new car! I'm saving my pennies for a 2011+, mainly for the engine, but also for the "new and improved" exterior.

I don't bother to warm up any of my vehicles, unless the windshield is covered in frost. However, I have noticed higher rpms at startup from both my 07 V6 and 05 GT, and for a longer duration, than other vehicles I've driven (even other Fords).

So, it must be a "Mustang thing". Could even be the goofy potentiometer under the accelerator pedal, because the throttle response in 05+ Mustangs is different than when the pedal was connected to a cable. My Mustangs have been the only throttle-by-wire cars I’ve driven, and maybe that’s what causes it.

I usually start it up, fold the sun shades, buckle up, put on my sunglasses and I'm ready to roll!

Congrats on your new Stang!!!! Once I start my car, it idles high and then goes down to normal RPM's after 20-30seconds. This is normal.

Thanks Guys!

Also on a side note, has anyone notice how nice the engine sounds when you start it? It makes my heart melt.

Sounds even better when you have dual exhaust!

This is also a result of open loop (or is that closed loop? I'm so confused) operation when cold.

My g/f nearly slips out of the passenger seat on cold startup. She loves the sound of my GT but her V6 Pony sounds sweet, too, with my GT takeoff.

Whenever I start up my '10 V6 stock AT, the engine will fluctuate between 1000-2000 rpms until i shift into drive. This happens anytime I start the car and is fairly noticeable. The car is still new (only 500 miles on it).

In my previous experience with others cars, this hasn't happened so I was wondering if this is normal for the mustang?

Thanks!
On initial start up it will be around 1200 rpms, after 30 seconds should be around 1000 and warmed up should be 750 rpms. Regarding fluctuating (going back and forth) between 1000 and 2000 seems odd to me even if your A/C is on!

Make sure you properly break in your car! It is possible because you are still in the break-in period it will act a little differently.

Ha don't worry, I've been babying it. I haven't topped out over 75 on any long highway commute yet and even then I normally cruise around 65
