I thought JBA shorties were proven to free up ~15hp. There was an article in one of the Mustang magazines. And usually LT's are better for low end torque, while shorties free up more high end power.

I'd go with longtubes on the v6 only if you plan to run a supercharger with it.
And make sure they're ceramic coated to help keep down the engine heat.

Even with the MAC longtubes I ran with the V6, it was a PITA to fab up the exhaust.
