Panhard contacting diff cover ???s
I installed an 8.8" rear end with 3.73s in spring. I've noticed that a few times I thought I heard a weird contact sound coming from the rear of my car. Usually over bigger bumps (seems in the road are kinda bad around here).
Recently I was under my car and noticed rub marks on my differential cover. They are coming from the panhard bar. With the car weight off the tires, there is about a 1" clearance. With the car back on the ground there is about 1 1/2" clearance.
I've been listening closely for the sound and the only time I am hearing it now is bumps in reverse. Example: backing into my garage. I colored the rub marks with a crayon and checked it after a road test on my daily driving route. There was 2 nicks in the crayon that were from backing into the garage.
My question is... There is only one way to install the rear end and panhard bar, how the hell is it moving laterally that much?
Any suggestions?

Define Laterally....
Back and forth aft to rear?
Side to side. It does move in an ARC.
The UCA and the LCAs are of different lengths
and thats the 1" to 1 1/2" diff you are seeing....
Draw it out with stick lines on paper and see...
You can get the panhard bar in backwards...
The ends are not welded on at the same angles
but the attachment points are the same and the
bar is straight so backwards would only produce
binding not a improper front to rear location of the bar.
There have been clearance issues with
8.8 bearing cap girdle covers...
Get a watts link and be done with it...

That will just add to the problem.
Find the original problem and fix that.

1. It is my belief that the cover is the original cover, I got the rear end from NTO and thought they sold them as factory parts.
2. I never removed the panhard bar, just unhooked one end and let it lay there during the installation of the rear end. So, it can't be on wrong.
I realize the movement is laterally, but I can't understand why I have so much movement in typical driving conditions.

Toasted 'rubber' OEM LCA and UCA bushings, maybe?
Mount a camera under there hooked to a DVR and record
whats going on under there during hard accelleration....
