used tuner??
So I have my new hood, grille, duals, and I'm getting my windows tinted as we speak. My next mod I'm saving up for is cai and a tuner.
I've been looking around and saw some used ones (sct tuner) for sale. I was just wondering how I get new tunes or atleast a tune made for my car put on? it seems like used tuners are about 180 bucks cheaper. Not bad.

You can get it dyno tuned and have that tune saved on the tuner or you can give American muscle 150 and get tunes for life. The sct is a great unit. I have an x3 and it's great. If you have a new edge don't waste your money on a cai. The stocker already is and can support 450 hp so you won't get any gain from an aftermarket one. Trust me. I had a k&n cai and I had 4 pulls on a dyno a my friends speed shop and the k&n vs stock gave me the exact same hp 245/289..... So if you are gonna buy one it's for looks. The 05 and up do see some improvement however... Gears and tuner are best bang for buck

You would email a company like BBR, Brenspeed, American Muscle, VMP, and give them specific info on your car, ( there's usually a list of things they ask ) and they will create an tune for your car and mods, then email it to you. Download it to your computer, then download it to the tuner via a USB cable, upload it to the car. Pretty simple actually.
A decent email tune is generally $50 to $75 for a N/A tune....
Or you can get a dyno tune as well, be more accurate but costs significantly more, usually $400 plus. For a stock to near stock vehicle, dyno tune would almost be overkill. But whatever floats your boat... :-)

If the previous owner didn't return his car to stock, the tuner will be locked. Be sure to confirm this before buying. It'll cost you enough to have it unlocked that you could have bought new.

Yep! Get a picture of it showing it's unlocked first, I had a guy swear up and down his was unlocked, asked for a pic which showed it was married.
Married = locked, unmarried = unlocked and available to use.
Guy wasn't trying to rip anybody off, he just didn't know how the Xcal's worked as is the case with 90% of folks.
