Default Definitive tire size questions

Looking at getting some new rims an tires.

Can someone tell me what the largest size 18" tire i can get would be. I like a little meat on the rim and if I could, I would go to a 16 inch wheel with a larger side wall. I have 17" now and may end up going with that.

I need to know the tire height (outside diameter?) and whats the widest we can go front and back?

Thanks

Get on AM and they will tell you a recomended size for your car for the certain size width and hieght of the tire. You can go bigger and wider but you may have issues

I believe for a set of 18's is 255/45 on the front on 9 inch rims and 275/40 on 10 inch rims atleast that is what it is for my car.

They have pictures of customers cars to compare what the size of tires looks like on the car.

I have 275/40-18 on 18x9 - 99-04 offset on my car all the way around and I'm lowered with Steeda Ultralites. No rubbing, even on hard turn-in at high speeds.

PS - BW, check out the new VA regional section!

i like meaty sidewalls myself. i would have stayed 16" if wider sizes were available, so i went with 17". 255/50-17 on 8" up frt, and 275/50-17 on 9" on rear. now those rears are about 1"taller than stock, which changed the speedo a little( corrected in tune) and knocked my 3.73 down a little too. but they look awesome and ride and handle great. you can use this tire calculator to punch in sizes to compare with the stock height

Rim width and offset is needed for the biggest
baddest tire that will fit properly.
I run 275/40-18s on a stock 18x8.5" 50mm offset
and have no problems with rubbing during turning.
But then I also installed the steering stops for 18" rims.

The wider the rim than OEM, the less offset is needed but
the tires start to expand and stick out past the wheel wells.
And then there is the increased load applied to the front spindles
as the tires get a wider contact patch with the road and the
load is placed farther out from the pivot point of the steering.
Wider also gets goofy on the rutted roads and you have to stay
alert to keep it from wandering all over.
