Default Auto Trans Fluid, the good ol' days and a Hot key

In the good ol' days all you had to do was unbolt about 15 bolts, drain the fluid, install a new gasket and filter and refill with the dip stick. Now-a-days you don't even have a dip stick, special tool are required, and a once simple task requires many hours or an ASE certified mechanic.
Anyone tried this? There is a drain plug which is nice but you also have to fill through a little plug. ??? The pan is also stamped that the gasket is reusable. anyone reuse it?
Anyone have Ford do it? How much?

2nd unrelated question: Anyone have their key get hot after driving a while. My key and ignition get really hot sometimes. I don't think that its a mustang thing cause my eclipse used to do it too. Just curious

For the transmission, it is recommended to actually not drop the pan. Instead, our shop hooks the transmission machine up to the cooler lines. This is a ~98+% fluid exchange while dropping the pan gets about ~60%. It gets it all out of the filter and torque converter this way too. As for price, around here it can be found for $100-150 depending upon discounts and labor costs.

There is a DIY on the auto fluid change. It's a good read. I did mine last October. I dropped the pan, swapped the filter and attempted to refill. It's really a slippery mess and in the end could not get it all in as it kept pouring out. So I measured how much I drained accounting for what spilled on me and the driveway and then pumped that in. Your car must be perfectly level to get a accurate reading. My car was not.
This year I hope to be better at it.....lol. I change mine every year cause I race it a lot.

cool. good to know guys. do our pans have a shavings magnet in them? seems like not dropping the pan would miss the magnet and anything in the filter. I don't see how the 60%/98% could be true, that seems low/high but I don't work at a shop.

Any word on the keys?
