Default Other ways to increase HP

Hey guys, I was just wondering if there is another good way to increase horse power Besides a CAI with a tuner. The reason is that I currently get my gas from my fathers office. He owns a local paving company, and he has a gas tank in the back of his truck yard where he fills up most of his trucks. Now thats great but it's not high octane gas, it's probably about 87 octane. I could get the JLT CAI with a 93 octane tune, but I really dont want to have to pay for my own gas. I am only 18, i have a job but I get paid $8 dollars and hour and only work about 20 hours a week. And if I did pay for my own gas filling it up would be about half a weeks pay. Now on americanmuscle.com there are CAI kits that dont require a tune, are these any good. Or should I just suck it up and pay for my own gas. Or are there other good ways to increase HP, any help would be much appreciated. PS: sorry for the long post had to tell my whole storry.

You can get a custom tune to run on 87, custom tunes will get you a few more hp than the canned tunes, other ways to get hp or the feel of extra hp include: weight reduction, gears, lighter driveshaft, udp's. You have options, but starting with a cai and tune is the best way to start.

Yeah I was thinking about doing that, it wont be as fun as the race 93 octane tune but it will be something. Thanks.

87 Street Tune from AM. Trust me, it's still fun. Haven't tried my 93 race though... Even the 87 Performance Tune would work well for you, little more fun than the street. On my sixer I had dual exhaust with X pipe from AM, which netted a few more HP, not too much, but enough to notice.

The 87 custom tunes run circles around the stock 87 tune. Also, there's a bigger difference between the stock 87 and the custom 87 than there is between the custom 87 and custom 93. Yeah, you'll feel a difference from custom 87 to custom 93, but not quite the same kick in the ****.

Other HP mods? About 3 or 4 of them MIGHT add up to the CAI & tune.

ANY tune will make what seems like quite a bit of a difference between the car being stock and tuned, even 87 street. Start with that because eventually when you go to college or get a better job or whatever the case may be you have to buyyour own gas and you can put a higher octane in it. Plus most other HP increasing mods require a new tune anyways so even if you dont get much HP out of your 87 tune but you get gears, headers, etc you'll need to retune it for those

I'm currently running a "street" 87 tune and let me tell you, it's a world's difference. I was running an economy setting for the first couple of days after I got her back from the shop, then two days ago I loaded the street tune after filling up. This mustang bucks.

AM gives you three custom tunes. Grab an 87, 89, and 93 and eventually when you're making more money, you'll be able to switch to the higher octane. I was in the same predicament you're in not 4 years ago. Regrettably, I never got that 93 tune.

Pay for your own gas.

I work 20-30 hours a week for 7.48 an hour, and I pay my own gas, insurance, maintenance, and mods.

CAI and Tune, go with American Muscle, they're pretty much the best with parts and tuning next to a custom shop like Evolution Performance or something of the sort. Always go with a tune on a CAI, much more gain and well worth the extra money.

Also, these really aren't Hp mods, but an 8.8 swap and/or a gear upgrade to maybe 3.73's, or if your adventurous, 4.10's will definitely wake any 4.0 up.
