$18K Are they NUTS???

Yea but hey, if people pay for it.... why not charge it?
They specialize in sales to people with poor credit. Hence they can justify the price. Unless that person buys a 1984 Civic for $1200 privately, what other choices do they have if they need a car for transportation? They have to go to a place like drive time which has their prices jacked up beyond belief.

I bought my 06 sixxer with 32k miles for 13.5k in 2007. I went through my bank and had a great interest rate because of my credit. I also had 8k cash to pay down, so that drove the price down as well. I really wanted a GT, but my insurance was crazy because of my previous ticket which was hefty. So my choice was a new edge GT or S197 v6, and I don't think I regret the choice I made.
They are taking advantage of poor people because they know they will not be able to get a better deal because of their credit. Buy here pay here is the same way, a major ripoff. Those dealers should be ashamed to take advantage of people like that. My friend was in that situation, having to deal with buy here pay here because of his credit, and I really felt bad for him.

And that's what they're counting on.
Not everyone that buys a car does their homework (i.e. first time car buyers). Same goes for first time home buyers. Sucker born every minute and a sucker parting with their money every minute.

A dealer can sell a vehicle for whatever they please. In the end it is the consumers responsibility to take care of themselves. It's a business and they will either survive off of ignorant people or they will be forced to drop their prices to stay competitive.
I looked for a vehicle for months before I found my Mustang and I wasn't even looking for a Mustang at the time. I got a 2005 GT with 21k miles for $17k. I knew it was a great deal but I still didn't buy until I had nearly looked at every mustang selling within 500 miles of where I live.
If some guy buys that v6 for $18k that is his prerogative IMO and I couldn't care less.

I saw a basic 2006 Mustang V6 with over 87K miles on it with a price tag of $18,001.12! Are they CRAZY? Seriously, I have only 10K miles on mine and it's a Pony Package that I bought brand new with only 3 miles on it for $19K! True the price was higher and I did get a lot of discounts but come on, $18K for a car that is USED with that many miles?

I got my 2007 GT with 83k on it (plus $6k supercharger kit, wheels, etc) for $14k, a few months ago. Although it did have bald tires and no exhaust, it easily made up for the supercharger kit
That v6 is worth like $11-12k, tops.

According to NADA my car with only 10K miles, plus Pony Package and loaded options is worth $17,475. Then again, I think NADA is misleading too. When I was putting in the info it said the PP had 16" wheels when they are 17". I know in 2006 they were 16" but in 2007 they put the GT tires on it.
KBB says my car is only worth $14,075.

I agree on the poor credit aspect but another thing is that this economy has people looking for used cars, therefore the dealers have jacked the prices up on used vehicles. It is almost better to buy new in some situations in this economy. I was at the Ford dealership the other day servicing my 07 v6 and was blown away that they were trying to sell an 06 v6 for 17000.
